TimeSplitters 2 Review

TimeSplitters 2 has it all. As I went through the initial menus, I was dazzled at all the game modes offered. They keep a profile of you just like in halo, but in TimeSplitters 2, they actually keep your statistics, too. They’ll show your Total Kills, Accuracy, and Easter Eggs (like breaking watermelons in the first stage and spotting UFOs on Planet X). This was a feature I wanted for Halo. It has tons of Arcade games, Challenge modes, and Multiplayer modes. The story mode is very engaging and challenging. Everything is perfectly in place…

Except for Network Support. *sigh* Eidos took out the TimeSplitters 2 server so you can’t play it online now, but they left all the options in the software to tease you about it. Hopefully, it will be updated, because that would make the game’s replay value a 15 out of 10 and far better than SOCOM.

Graphics

Great environments, tons of unique well-rendered characters, water and fire effects, weather, lighting… everything is top-notch.

Story

A great setup for a First Person Shooter, but not epic or emotion-inspiring at all.

Sound

I love the sound. Plug in the Surround sound and you’ll be in heaven. And the music is the best I’ve heard in a Non-RPG in a long time.

Replay Value

Phenomenal. The multiplayer is the best I’ve seen on PS2 and it even rivals Halo. The challenges and Arcade modes will keep you coming back for more even if you finish the story on Hard.

Fun

For some reason, the multiplayer is less frustrating than any other dueling game I’ve played short of Mario Kart 64’s Battle Mode. It’s light-hearted and action packed.
