Xenosaga Episode 1 Review

Xenosaga Episode 1 is a solid game, don’t get me wrong. The graphics are very cool, the story is great, the character customization is deep. But the game just isn’t fun. Turn-based combat is interesting with all the skills and spells you can learn, but it just isn’t fast enough. There isn’t enough action. Plus, you put your controller down and watch half the game. FMV sequences take up to 20 minutes a piece! Like I said, it’s a solid JRPG, but just play it when you have nothing better to do. Dark Cloud 2 or Kingdom Hearts are much better buys.

Graphics

Somewhat cartoony, but VERY detailed. The entire experience of Xenosaga Episode 1 moves beautifully and the voice overs match the visuals well.

Sound

Voice talent is great and the music is good, but the main thing is the sound effects sound great in Dolby 5.1.

Replay Value

I finished it and never looked back. But when Xenosaga Episode 2 comes out, maybe it will make me want to try it again. (UPDATE 9/10/2014 : Nope.)

Verdict

For JRPG fanatics that have already played the dozens of better ones already.
