Final Fantasy 12 should be quite a spectacle. The production team includes a sort of dream team from Square. Sakaguchi’s back, and he’s still at the top of his game (see date of publication in case FFXI flopped). Plus, he will be sharing his authority with a great in his own … Relm : Yasumi Matsuno, the director of Vagrant Story and the great Final Fantasy Tactics. They will also be joined by Hiroyuki Ito, whom directed Final Fantasy IX.
I liked all of these games, except Vagrant Story which I have yet to play, but plan to. If they can combine the Final Fantasy Tactics storyline quality and deep battle system with Final Fantasy IX’s fun character designs, and then add the passion from Final Fantasy VII and X, we will have a Final Fantasy to rival number six. And, if they can design a character that combined the coolness of Kimahri, Shadow, Red XIII, and Sephiroth together… damn.
O, all the wishes and dreams… Will they ever come true? *sigh. We will see around 2004.
(EDIT 9/10/2014)
10 years later, I can say that I was pretty right about Final Fantasy 12. It’s still one of my favorites in the series and I think Fran met the role that I mentioned when I said “a character that combined the coolnesses of Kimahri, Shadow, Red XIII, and Sephiroth”. She was definitely cool. The game was also easily the most beautiful looking game on the PlayStation 2, and I feel ranks pretty well among even PS3 games for aesthetics.
Man, now I want to play it again.
