Today I’m trying the Kiva Blackberry Dark Chocolate Bar. It was recommended to me by the resident “edibles girl” at one of my favorite local dispensaries, Igzactly 420.

The Strain
The strain isn’t mentioned on the bar’s packaging, so I emailed Kiva asking about it. I can surmise from the effects that it’s likely an Indica Hybrid, but that’s just an educated guess.
During my research I found out the Kiva Blackberry Dark Chocolate Bar actually won High Times’s award for Best Edible at the 2013 Medical Cannabis Cup in LA. Looks like the “edibles girl” has good taste!
The Taste
When I opened the purple wrapper, the smell was fantastic. I could sense a slight pot smell, but it wasn’t overpowering at all. This is good because if the smell is too strong it’s very unappetizing for me, and I can sometimes even gag.
The flavor was very similar to the smell. Slight hint of pot flavor but mostly good quality dark chocolate. I didn’t taste much blackberry in it, but it was there. Overall, a very pleasant flavor.
I took a 30mg piece (2/3 of a square), which is my normal preferred dosage from other edibles.
The Feeling
It started to build around 40 minutes after eating, which is fairly quick for an edible in my experience. I was relaxed and my neck and back pain was already about 75% gone. My mouth got a little dry, but nothing too severe.
I first noticed I had peaked around the 90 minute mark. The same effects as earlier, except at 100%. It was difficult to focus, and it felt slow to remember things. I didn’t feel any shifts in mood or energy, just coordination. I got quite hungry of course.
After the fog lifted (about 5-6 hours after taking the dose), I still felt very relaxed and my pain was substantially reduced for hours. During this time I could write, play more demanding video games, and focus perfectly fine.
The Verdict : Kiva Blackberry Dark Chocolate Bar
The Kiva Blackberry Dark Chocolate Bar is delicious, fast-working, and long-lasting. If you enjoy dark chocolate and prefer a less “potty” taste and smell like I do, I highly recommend it.
