The older I get, the harder it is to accept gifts from people. I buy everything I [reasonably] want as soon as it’s value is equal or greater than its expense. I’m modestly successful and mostly content with what I have in my life. It feels strange to continue receiving presents.
What To Buy That Person Who Has Everything
Some of my friends say the same thing. Their parents or significant other asks them what they want for the holidays and they just blank. They have to start looking for stuff that they never really wanted before that day, just to at least answer the question. My Amazon wish list is now full of random silly things I don’t need, but I put in there just because they’re fun impulse gifts. Don’t get me wrong; I’d still like and appreciate them, but if I didn’t receive them as gifts I probably wouldn’t go out and buy them myself.
But there’s one item in my wish list that I think anyone with this First World Problem should consider: An Oxfam Unwrapped gift. Basically, you can go to oxfamamericaunwrapped.com/all-gifts/ and pick out a charitable gift you’d like your loved ones to buy for people who need it in your name. It’ll make both you and the person buying the gift feel warm and fuzzy inside, plus it will help people who really need gifts.
So throw a goat on your wish list. Help a girl get an education in a place where that doesn’t come easily. Get that for someone for whom you don’t know what else to get.
Just a thought.
