Kaiser Permanente: A Barrier to Mental Health
This post is unfinished. I published it anyway because I believe it still has some value. On the bright side, it'll probably be short! 😇
(comment or contact me to request an update about its subject matter)
Kaiser Permanente does as much as they possibly can to stop me from accessing mental healthcare outside of an acute crisis.
My formal complaint:
Medical facility, department, or other area where issue occurred
PsychiatryDate issue occurred (mm/dd/yyyy)
11/25/2025Describe the nature of the issue.
Jennifer Lisa Solarz interviewed me for an authorization to continue my regular therapy with my existing provider, Elana Luban (Lic 125558). Despite me accurately answering every question they asked, the authorization was submitted with several errors. The name and license numbers were incorrect. They stated multiple preferences on my behalf that I was not asked about including a preference for in-person therapy which is not correct. They never even asked me for these things in our call.
Have you tried to resolve the issue? If so, how?
I needed to repeatedly call and write Kaiser to correct the errors in the submission. I received a letter authorizing me for care I don’t want and can’t use, so I had to call back in again to attempt to correct it.
What would you consider to be a proper solution to the issue?
I want you to authorize my ongoing therapy that helps keep me stable and healthy. I don’t know why it ever expired. I don’t know why I apparently need to get it re-authorized every six months now. This is a horrible policy change that directly negatively impacts my mental health.
It’s extremely stressful to not know if my provider will be there for me next week, especially while we’re working on trauma and ongoing chronic issues together.
Most of all, I want my time respected. I’ve had to waste several stressful hours on this because of all the mistakes and unnecessary barriers Kaiser is putting between me and my care.
